Troublemaker Shorts

THE FACTS:

November of 2007. Inspired by the guerrilla style film-making described in Robert Rodriguez's excellent book, "Rebel Without A Crew", Monty decides to shoot and edit his own short film entirely by himself. The result, "Malartu", was posted on the CBP Myspace page for all to marvel.

Unbeknown to Monty, Steve had also shot a one-man short while visiting his family during the Thanksgiving weekend. His opus was entitled, "Waking Up In Film". When both Monty and Steve realized what they had done with just a camera, an idea, and antsy boredom, they convinced (i.e. forced) Rob to create one of his own. Rob's film, "The Mad Cap", was screened alongside his comrade's films at "Look At Our Shorts: Take 3" in the Summer of 2008.

WHAT IS A "TROUBLEMAKER SHORT"?

Named after Rodriguez's studio, the Troublemaker Shorts are films created by the CBP members indivually. They can involve other cast members, but the majority of the work is produced by either Rob, Monty, or Steve. The shorts are a chance for the boys to work solo and stretch their personal filmmaking skills.

And so, presented here are the Troublemaker Shorts. A glimpse into the individual creative energies of Rob, Monty, and Steve. We hope you enjoy them.

I was inspired to make this video after watching CBP's "Troublemaker Shorts". I hadn't made a movie of my own in...five years? It had been a while, regardless, and I missed it. After watching the boys' shorts, I decided to do the same.

Goofy in Hell

During Thanksgiving break of 2007, I found myself staying with my brother in Denver. It was about 12:30am (this was well before my current 10 hour job, so I could still afford to keep such late nights) and my brother had gone to bed, leaving me to my own devices. Left with a camera, an empty apartment, and no desire for sleep, an idea struck me for a one-man film. So, for the next three to four hours, I improvised a short film.

Back in October of 2007, for my birthday, Rob gifted me "Rebel without a Crew" by Robert Rodriguez. I flew through the pages in no time,
amazed by the story Mr. Rodriguez had. Inspired I set out to make a film of my own, with a cast and crew of just one- me. The Idea was to
write, direct, shoot, star, and edit all by myself.

I started with the script, which was based on a split-screen camera test I had considered earlier that year. Writing didn't take long at
all, maybe an hour, so armed with a coffee buzz and a script of 3-4 pages I headed down to the BATCAVE to begin shooting.
